AviFlash version 0.98 BETA release

Well, here it is. A flashcard program for the Avigo.
WARNING: This is a BETA release! I have it installed on my Avigo and
so far it hasn't crashed, but I'm not guaranteeing anything.

AviFlash should be fairly easy to use. You can enter flash cards by hand or import them from a memo. The memo format is described below. When you start up the program it attempts to put you as closely as possible to exactly where you were last time. Thus, if you quit the program while in the middle of a quiz it should put you right back in the quiz on the same word.

If things get screwed up or if you want to get rid of all the flashcards, choose "clear" from the menu.

Limitations:

The export to memo menu choice is not implemented.

The prefs menu choice is not implemented.

The memo list shows you all memos. Eventually it will show you just those
memos which are flashcard files (probably using a standard extension on the memo title).

Each side of a card can be 28 characters at most. The number of cards is
(virtually) unlimited (each card is a record and an app can address 64K
records).

Future Directions:

The two biggest priorities are

1) a more sophisticated quiz mode. Something along the lines of displaying with a higher frequency those flashcards you have trouble with.

2) allowing the back of a card to display a bitmap. I want to use this program to review my Japanese and brush up my rusty Hebrew so I will be implementing a way to display non-European characters. Right now I'm thinking along the lines of Ken Shirriff's "Learn Alphabets" program for the Pilot.

Questions? Complaints? Suggestions?

Be sure to email me and let me know. I'm not as prolific as others on the Avigo developers list (see www.onelist.com for the Avigo list), but I'll respond to your email as quickly as I can.

Matt
