2.0.0 - Files & Installation
2.1.0 - What you need to install Reaction Quake 3 3.0
You need Quake 3, preferably a LEGAL copy with a valid CD key. You will need the latest Q3A Point Release, as of this writing it is 1.32 for Windows, Linux, and Macintosh. Install Quake 3 and install the 1.32 Point Release. Make sure it works fine. If it doesn't work fine just as a patched version of Quake 3 (you can check the version by hitting ~ and dropping down the console, the version number will be in the lower-right of the console) then you really need to get your Quake 3 install working BEFORE installing Reaction Quake 3. Sometimes the Point Release doesn't get applied properly so please check the version number to verify it worked before installing Reaction Quake 3.
You can find the latest Quake 3 point releases available for download here: http://www.quake3arena.com/
2.2.0 - How much space will Reaction Quake 3 3.0 take up when installed?
Try to have 650 MB free on the drive you are installing Reaction Quake 3 into. RQ3 takes up around 315 MB and the full installer/ZIP is about the same size, too, so you'll need 2 x 315 MB = 630 MB or so free. Add another 20 MB "just in case" for temporary files and 650 MB should be approximately how much free space you need to install RQ3. You can delete the installer afterward and reclaim that space the installer/ZIP took up.
2.3.0 - How do I actually INSTALL RQ3?
Either UNZIP the .zip file into /quake3 or use the premade installer for your platform. The install directory MUST BE the Quake 3 folder. Don't make an "rq3" folder and put it in there when you unzip or you will probably end up with /quake3/rq3/rq3 and that is just no good.
2.4.0 - Installing additional media (maps, player models, replacement weapons, etc.)
When new maps, player models, or weapon replacements are released, they are done so as a .pk3 file. Contained within this file are all the necessary textures, sounds, environment and support files that create a map, or the model, animations, and skins for a player model or replacement weapon. When a new map or set of maps are released on the Backlot, all you need to do is download the file and place the pk3 file in the /quake3/rq3 directory. Maps downloaded as a .zip file need to have the .pk3 file extracted into the /quake3/rq3/ directory. If the .zip file is opened and there are many files with paths, then the .zip extension needs to be changed to .pk3 and the file placed in the /quake3/rq3 directory.
If you download a map that's a later version, say you had map-bank-01.pk3 and you download map-bank-02.pk3, or map-friction-02.pk3 and you download map-friction-03.pk3, it is encouraged that you keep the older map with the lower revision number (the -02 part). Some updated maps may come with a small "stub" map PK3. Please overwrite the older version of the map with the new "stub" if it is included in the map ZIP that you download--this will help reduce conflicts and keep your reaction folder from taking up too much space on your hard drive!
All of this is also applies to any new official RQ3 player models or official RQ3 replacement weapons that you download from the Guild.
