Release Notes for KBackup V1.1

To install KBackup, simply call the shell script "Install" in this
directory. This will install the program as well as its data files and
manual.

There is no man-page for KBackup but a printed manual in two different
PostScript formats (convert it using gs(1), if you don't have a
PostScript capable printer). It is also included as an online manual
within KBackup itself. The LaTeX2e source is included in a compressed
tar archive as well, so you can format the manual for other paper sizes
than just A4.

IMPORTANT:
You need the dialog(1) program to run KBackup or its installation
script.

For using KBackup, you will require the suite of GNU text utilities like
gawk, sed and grep. You will also require the GNU tar. You should also
install a copy of afio, if you don't already have it. For using
encryption you can combine KBackup with pgp. To find these programs,
have a look at the Linux Software Map available via ftp from
sunsite.unc.edu and many other sites. These programs are available from
sunsite as well.
afio can be found on sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/Linux/system/Backup

On a standard Linux Distribution (Slackware), all of these programs,
except for pgp(1) and afio(1), should be available.

SUPPORT:

Yes, there is.
To release a backup program without support is irresponsible, so I am
willing to support you in case you run into problems. I will try to
answer any mails with questions and fix any bugs that I get reported.
If you miss any features ( I can think of some useful time/date related
options... How about all those many tar/afio options I don't use, does
anybody need them?) or want any changes, don't hesitate to tell me.

As this is the first public release (well, the second...), there will
most likely still be quite some bugs in it. It is hardly possible for me
to test all possible option settings, configurations, etc.., therefore,
if you have a problem, please let me know. Though, I think KBackup can
be regarded safely enough to rely on it (I do.).

However, this software is released under the terms of the GNU GENERAL
PUBLIC LICENSE and I will not be responsible for any damages or data
loss due to the use of KBackup.
To register as a user of KBackup, PLEASE send me a picture postcard of
your area. This will not only entitle you for free support (as much as I
can help you...) but also make me happy and encourage me to improve this
software. :-)

Don't hesitate to mail me any problems, but don't be surprised
if you won't get an immediate reply. I will help you as soon as
I can, but sometimes I am at places far away from the net, so it might
occasionally take some time before I reply.

APOLOGIES to all those who tried the previous release of KBackup and did
not get it running. I uploaded it in the background and my ftp-process
crashed for some reason. As I had gone on vacation, I could not fix it
immediately.
