========================== INTRODUCTION ==============================

If you're using WordStar 3.30 or 3.31 with PC-DOS, the files on this
Printer-Support Enhancement Disk for WordStar will let you use
additional printers.

If you have WordStar 3.31, you can now use these additional printers:

    Diablo 630 ECS
    Hewlett-Packard LaserJet
    Hewlett-Packard ThinkJet
    IBM Quietwriter
    IBM Wheelprinter

If you have WordStar 3.30, you can now use the above five printers as
well as a number of new and modified printers not previously available
to WordStar 3.30 users. During WordStar installation, you'll see a
complete listing of all the printers you can use.

======================== A TECHNICAL NOTE ============================

When you use the Printer-Support Enhancement Disk, files on your
WordStar Program Disk will be replaced with updated files.

If you have WordStar 3.31, WS.INS, WSOVLY1.OVR, and WINSTALL.EXE will
be replaced with updated files.

If you have WordStar 3.30, WS.INS and WSOVLY1.OVR will be replaced with
updated files. WINSTALL.COM and WINSTALL.OVR will be replaced by the
new file WINSTALL.EXE. If you used the previous version of the
Printer-Support Enhancement Disk (April 1985), WINSTALL.COM and
WINSTALL.OVR have already been replaced. When you follow the
instructions below, you'll see the DOS message "File not found." Simply
ignore the message and the updating process will continue as it's
supposed to.

=========== HOW TO USE THE PRINTER-SUPPORT ENHANCEMENT DISK ==========

If you have single-sided drives, skip this section and read "Using the
Printer-Support Enhancement Disk on Single-Sided Drives" at the end of
this document. If you have double-sided drives or a hard disk,
continue reading.

1. If you have a floppy disk system, format a blank, double-sided disk.
If you have a hard disk system, create a new directory.

See the instructions in your DOS manual if you need help with
    either of the above procedures.

2. Copy the following files from your ORIGINAL WordStar Program
Disk(s) onto the disk or directory you prepared in step 1.

If you have WordStar 3.30, copy these files: WSU.COM, WSMSGS.OVR,
    WS.INS, WINSTALL.COM, WINSTALL.OVR.

If you have WordStar 3.31, copy these files: WSU.COM, WSMSGS.OVR,
    WS.INS, WINSTALL.EXE.

3. Place the Printer-Support Enhancement Disk in drive A.

If you have a two floppy disk system, place the disk from Step 2 in
drive B. If you have a hard disk system, make sure your WordStar
program files are in your current directory.

    Log on to drive A.

4. Next you'll specify which version of WordStar you have and which
    printer(s) you'll be using.

If you have WordStar 3.30, and your printer is:

o Hewlett-Packard LaserJet printer, or any other supported printer
except the Diablo 630 ECS printer, use the filename HP330.

o Diablo 630 ECS, or any other supported printer except the
Hewlett-Packard LaserJet printer, use the filename ECS330.

If you have WordStar 3.31, and your printer is:

o Hewlett-Packard LaserJet printer, or any other supported printer
except the Diablo 630 ECS printer, use the filename HP331.

o Diablo 630 ECS, or any other supported printer except the
Hewlett-Packard LaserJet printer, use the filename ECS331.

Type the filename, a space, the drive letter where your program
files are located, and a colon, then press Return. For example, if
you were using the filename "HP330" and your program files were on
drive B, you would type HP330 B: and press Return.

5. The program automatically copies the files onto your disk. When
that's finished, the regular WordStar installation program begins.
From this point on, answer the questions as they're presented on
your screen. When you're asked for the name of the file to install,
be sure to press Return to accept WSU.COM as the correct file.

Remember: You MUST reinstall WordStar using WSU.COM to ensure its
    correct operation.

6. When you're asked the name of the installed WordStar file, press
Return to accept WS.COM or type a different filename of your
    choice.

7. During the installation of WordStar, you must install the specific
printer you'll be using. To do this, choose Menu of Printers
(Choice A) from the Installation Menu.

If you had previously customized other features (function keys,
help levels, etc.), you'll need to customize them again. Choose
Menu of WordStar Features (Choice C) from the Installation Menu.

To change onscreen colors, choose Color Installation (Choice T)
from the Menu of WordStar Features. If you have WordStar 3.30,
make sure you do NOT use the BASIC program WSCOLOR.BAS.

Refer to your WordStar Installation Manual if you need further
    assistance.

8. If you're going to be using the Diablo 630 ECS printer, copy the
MATH.TST file from the Printer-Support Enhancement Disk to your
WordStar Program Disk or into your WordStar directory.

9. Once you've finished the installation process and are back at the
system prompt, make a backup copy of your newly installed WordStar
program files. Be sure to copy the following updated files:

       WS.COM
       WSMSGS.OVR
       WSOVLY1.OVR
       WINSTALL.EXE
       WS.INS

This backup copy will be your new master program disk. Keep it
with your original WordStar disk(s) for safekeeping. If you have a
floppy disk system, copy the files from this new master program
disk to any working copy of WordStar you may already be using. If
you have a hard disk system, copy this disk to any directories
    containing your WordStar program files.

Note: If you have WordStar 3.30 with a hard or floppy disk system,
make sure you delete the outdated files WINSTALL.COM and
    WINSTALL.OVR.

10. You can now use WordStar with the additional supported printers.
For complete information on using these printers, read the
PRNTINFO.WS file on the Printer-Support Enhancement Disk for
WordStar 3.30 and 3.31. To see this file, at the system prompt
type TYPE PRNTINFO.WS and press Return.

Installing Optional Programs

o If you have WordStar 3.30 and CorrectStar or TelMerge, you'll need
to reinstall these programs after you've used the Printer-Support
Enhancement Disk. See the instructions for installation of
CorrectStar and TelMerge in their appropriate manuals.

o If you have WordStar 3.30 and MailMerge 3.31 or 3.32, you'll need
to reinstall MailMerge after you've used the Printer-Support
Enhancement Disk. (MailMerge 3.30 does not need to be installed.)

    To do this:

    1. Place the WordStar Program Disk in one drive, and the MailMerge
disk in the other. (If you have a hard disk system, all files
should be in the same hard disk directory.)

    2. Make sure you're logged on to the drive where the MailMerge files
are located. At the system prompt, type INSTALL MM and press
Return. Then follow the onscreen instructions.

o If you have WordStar 3.31 (WordStar Professional and Professional
Plus) and CorrectStar, you'll need to reinstall CorrectStar after
you've used the Printer-Support Enhancement Disk. See the
installation instructions in the CorrectStar manual.

===USING THE PRINTER-SUPPORT ENHANCEMENT DISK ON SINGLE-SIDED DRIVES===

If your WordStar release is on two disks and you're using a single-
sided, two floppy disk system, you'll use a procedure different from
the one above.

1. Make a copy of your original WordStar program disks.

2. Place the copy of the disk from step 1 that contains the
    WSOVLY1.OVR file in drive B.

3. Place the Printer-Support Enhancement Disk in drive A.
