Q3Post 2.01
Description:
Q3Post is an mIRC script for Quake 3 Arena players that lets you:
- Automatically post in mIRC a server's IP address and description, whenever
you connect to a Quake 3 server, while you play.
- Quickly get the stats from, or connect to, Quake 3 servers in a customizable
favorites list, all from mIRC.
- Automatically respond to questions in IRC while you are playing that contain
your nickname, or other keywords you can set. The response will let the person
know what server you last connected to. These responses turn on when you connect
to a new server, and off when you say something in mIRC, or you can control
them through Q3Post's menu.
- Choose which IRC channels it will post messages in, and which types of messages
will be posted.
Installation:
WARNING: Do the steps in order or Q3Post probably won't work. =)
Upgrading Q3Post: follow these steps, but do the extra step "1b"
- Get the latest versions of Quake 3 point releases and mIRC, since I test the script with the newest versions. You can check which version of Quake 3 by running it and pressing the ` key
(the version will be on the right hand side of the console that comes down).
To see the version number for mIRC go to the "Help" menu and select
"About..."
1b. (only if you are upgrading Q3Post) Open mIRC and either select the
Q3Post menu item "Quit Q3Post" (if you had version 1.13 or later) or enter
"/unload -rs q3post.mrc" in the input line (without the quotes)
and then close mIRC.
- Quit mIRC if it is running..
- Put the new q3post.mrc file in your mIRC directory (C:\mirc
is common), replacing the old version.
- Start up mIRC and enter this command in the mIRC input line: "/load -rs
q3post.mrc" (without the quotes) and click "Yes" if mIRC prompts you with
a confirmation dialog box (don't just hit Enter, you need to click the "Yes"). Now Q3Post will load automatically every time you
run mIRC.
- (You only need to do this if your copy of Quake 3 is not in C:\Program Files\Quake
III Arena\) Use Q3Post's popup menu (right click in an mIRC chat window and
select "Q3Post" and then "Options...") to set your Quake 3 directory.
- Check to see if mIRC is set up so that it can launch Quake 3 (and notepad
if you want to edit the keyword file). Go to the mIRC options menu (ALT-o)
and select "General" and then "Lock" and make sure that "Disable commands:"
"/run" is NOT checked.
- Open your Quake 3\baseq3 directory. If you don't have an autoexec.cfg
in this directory then just use the one I have included. Otherwise, open the
autoexec.cfg included with Q3Post and copy the whole thing and paste it at
the end of your autoexec.cfg. The new setting is fully automatic, and updates
Q3Post's info whenever you connect to a new server. (you should replace
any old autoexec.cfg settings with the new ones)
- Join a channel in mIRC where you want to try Q3Post out, and then start
up Quake 3 (or quit Quake 3 and restart it if it was open) and connect to
a server. Once you connect to a Quake 3 server, Q3Post should post a message
in the mIRC channel with the IP address of the server. The message
will be posted after a short delay, since Q3Post only checks for new info
every few seconds so that it doesn't hog your computer. You can adjust the
delay in the Q3Post menu if you want to.
Popup Menu in mIRC:
To use the popup menu in mIRC click the right mouse button in a chat window, or in the status window, and select Q3Post to see the menu items.
- "Post Current Quake 3 Server IP"
- This is so you can manually post the IP of a server you are connected to,
if you want to.
- "Get Server Stats or Browse Favorites"
- Opens a window where you can get the stats from Quake 3 servers (current
players, ping, etc.). You can get
server stats from any Quake 3 server by adding the address to the list.
You can also use the command "/q3info [server IP address]" to open
this window from mIRC's input line.
- "Connect to a Quake 3 Server"
- Lauch Quake 3, connecting to the server IP address that you will be prompted
for. This will also tell others in IRC that you are connecting to that server,
and turn on automatic responses, just like if you had connected to a new server while
playing. You can also do this by entering in the mIRC input line "/q3 [server
IP address] [Quake 3 command line options]. (for example: "/q3 q3.thejadegarden.com +exec altconfig +set password example" launches Quake 3, connects to q3.thejadegarden.com:27960, executes altconfig.cfg in baseq3, and sets the password to "example")
- "Options..."
- Set the options.
- "About"
- Let's you and others in your current mIRC channel know where to get Q3Post,
and what version you are using.
- "Quit Q3Post"
- Shuts down Q3Post and cleans up after it. To reload it later, type "/load RS q3post.mrc"
in the mIRC input line, no quotes.
Uninstalling:
- Open mIRC and either select the Q3Post menu item "Quit Q3Post"
(if you had version 1.13 or later) or enter "/unload -rs q3post.mrc" in the
input line (without the quotes), then quit mIRC
- Move the q3post.mrc file out of the mirc directory, and
any other files that start with "q3p"
- Remove the included autoexec.cfg file from your Quake 3\baseq3 directory,
or if you had your own autoexec.cfg, take the settings from the Q3Post autoexec.cfg
out.
Notes:
-
The Quake 3 setting creates a file q3pdata.txt in the appropriate mod directory, or baseq3,
when you connect to a server. Also, the mIRC script will create data files
in your mirc directory, "q3pkeywords.txt," "q3pchannels.txt," "q3pservers.txt" and "q3post.ini"
if you use all the options.
