Program: Groups (version 0.17) Short: Usenet newsgroups selection Files: groups017.spk Spark'd archive of the program groups017.txt A copy of this message Demon: /pub/acorn/utils Hensa: Package d116 These files replace the previous version, "groups014.spk" and "groups014.txt" !Groups makes it easier to add and remove Usenet newsgroups from your news feed. It provides a window with two subwindows - a source window displaying a newsgroups list, or new groups, and a feed window displaying the groups you are currently receiving. Newsgroups are added or removed simply by double-clicking. Be sure to read the Help file for information on how to install and configure this application. Requirements ------------ * RISC OS 3.10 or greater * Newsbase version 0.54 or greater * A news transport system (e.g. ka9q or freenews) Features -------- * Quick display of a full newsgroups file. * Display of new groups created since you last checked. * Newsgroup interactive and wildcard searches. * Easy to add or remove groups - simply double-click. * Can drag group names to other applications (e.g. WWW browsers) * Optional merging of new groups into your main list. Installation ------------ I suggest you install !Groups inside !Newsbase.AutoBoot, unless you are likely to want to run it on its own, in which case you can put it in your main Internet directory. Newsbase will automatically run Groups when you choose the "New Groups..." option from its main menu, provided it has been seen previously by the filer. If you are upgrading from a previous version of Groups, simply copy the new version on top. Your configuration will be kept. Changes from 0.14 (last public release) to 0.17 ----------------------------------------------- Features added: * Newsgroups on both sides can be selected by mouse clicks. Double-click on the left to add, double-click on the right hand side to remove. * Up/Down/^Up/^Down/PgUp/PgDown whilst interactively searching will move the selected line about. RETURN to add. * Interactive searching is now allowed on all three source formats. Improved behaviour: * Lists are now drawn in the desktop font on the Risc PC. * Newsfeed is now stored in a Dynamite block. WimpSlot is now 48k. * If the main newsgroup was not loaded at startup, it is now loaded automatically when required. * Newsfeed listing is reloaded when adding/removing groups to ensure that it is kept up-to-date. There may be a short delay before it redraws. Bugs fixed: * Long-standing dynamite bug fixed (initialising the list was doing one line too many, resulting in it overflowing its block) * Problems where interactive searching suddenly stopped working fixed (indirected text was overflowing into the validation string) Features removed: * Double-click to send newsgroup to ArcWeb removed. |> /+\ \| | |> -- David Croft. david@infotrek.demon.co.uk http://www.infotrek.demon.co.uk/
