=========================================================================== Welcome to disc 1 of the Walnut Creek CDROM X11R6 package. =========================================================================== This disk contains the X11R6 patch level 12 distribution, as well as binaries for HP-UX 9.05, IRIX 5.2, OSF/1 3.0 on DEC Alpha AXP, Solaris 2.3 and SunOS 4.1.4. For Intel architecture platforms, the complete XFree86 3.1.2 distribution is provided, containing binaries for FreeBSD (1.1.5 and 2.0.5), Linux, BSD/OS (BSDI), SCO and SVR4 (Intel). XFree86 3.1.1 binaries are also provided are provided for FreeBSD 2.0. These distribution are also available via anonymous ftp from ftp.x.org and xfree86.cdrom.com. =========================================================================== To install the software on your computer, please use the install.sh shell script located in the root directory of both discs. The usage for this program is: install.sh [-c] [-a ] [-p ] [-i ] -c set flag to copy files instead of using symbolic links -a selects architecture desired (default is to try and guess) -p sets cdrom mount point (default is /cdrom) -i sets installation directory (default is /usr/X11R6) If you would like to run off the CD-ROM with no new links or code, do the following and you are not running an XFree86 platform: % ln -s /cdrom/ARCH /usr/X11R6 % cp /usr/X11R6/bin/rstartd /usr/bin (Where "ARCH" depends on the operating system.) Also note that for some platforms, the rstartd binary may be in the misc or misc/bin subdirectories. This will create a link in /usr that points to the correct directory in the CD-ROM. Once you have done this, if you add /usr/X11R6/bin to your path, you will be able to run the X software directly off the disk. The "rstartd" program must be in a directory that the shell will find by default, since some shells do not allow setting the path when run from rsh. =========================================================================== Here is a list of some of the important files and directories on the disc: README This file filename.txt file listsfor the disc ls-lR install.sh* Install script Bsdi/ Binary distributions for the following platforms FreeBSD-1.1.5/ FreeBSD-2.0/ FreeBSD-2.0.5/ Linux/ NetBSD/ SVR4/ Solaris-2.4/ hpux9.05/ solaris2.3/ sunos4.1.3/ ultrix4.4/ docs/ Walnut Creek CDROM catalog utils/ utilities for accessing compressed or tar'ed files. =========================================================================== We have also included a full word index program and database for the disc.
