Properties Reference



accessKey

Description

Specifies an accelerator key that can be applied to several elements, listed below. The ALT key plus a specified access key allows you to set the focus on a particular page.

Syntax

object.accessKey[ = accessKey]

Remarks

The following example uses a combination of the LABEL element and the access key property to set focus on a text box.

action

Description

Specifies the address to be used to carry out the action of the form. If none is specified, the base URL of the document is used.

activeElement

Description

Identifies the element that has the focus.

This read-only property is set when you select a control in the interface or use the focus method.

align

Description

Specifies how the element is aligned with adjacent text.

Syntax

object.align[ = "string"]

Settings

The value of this read-write property can be one of these strings:

absbottom Aligns the bottom of the element with the absolute bottom of the surrounding text. The absolute bottom is equal to the baseline of the text minus the height of the largest descender in the text.
absmiddle Aligns the middle of the element with the middle of the surrounding text. The absolute middle is the midpoint between the absolute bottom and texttop of the surrounding text.
baseline Aligns the bottom of the element with the baseline of the surrounding text.
bottom Aligns the bottom of the element with the bottom of the surrounding text. The bottom is equal to the baseline minus the standard height of a descender in the text.
left Aligns the element to the left of the surrounding text. All preceding and subsequent text flows to the right of the element. This is the default value.
middle Aligns the middle of the element with the surrounding text.
right Aligns the element to the right of the surrounding text. All subsequent text flows to the left of the element.
texttop Aligns the top of the element with the absolute top of the surrounding text. The absolute top is the baseline plus the height of the largest ascender in the text.
top Aligns the top of the element with the top of the text. The top of the text is the baseline plus the standard height of an ascender in the text.

For the INPUT element, this attribute applies only to the image type. It is undefined for all other types.

align

Description

Specifies the alignment of the caption or legend.

Syntax

object.align[ = align]

Settings

This read-write property can be set to one of these string values:

bottom Align bottom-center.
center Center the caption.
left Left align.
right Right align.
top Align top-center.

Remarks

Difference between a LEGEND tag and a CAPTION tag:

The LEGEND tag is used only within a FIELDSET tag. The contents of the LEGEND tag are displayed by cutting a hole in the top border of the FIELDSET and placing the LEGEND text in that hole.

The CAPTION tag is used only within a TABLE tag. Its contents are displayed centered above the table and do not interact at all with the table border.

align

Description

Specifies how the table should be aligned.

center Align to the center.
left Align to the left edge. This is the default value.
right Align to the right edge.

Displays the element left flush, right flush, or centered relative to the display or table.

Description
