Setting Up an ODBC Connection for Address Book
You need to set up an ODBC System data source name (DSN) on the Web server where the Microsoft® Advanced Data Connector server components will be installed.
This setup assumes that the Employee table is created in the AddrBookDB database on a local SQL Server running on the Web server. If you want to use another database or another SQL Server running on a separate server, then you must change the values for Server and Database Name in the ODBC SQL Server Setup dialog box. If you do so, you will also have to make small changes in the included SQL script.
To set up the DSN for a Windows NT® client
-
On the Web server, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
-
In Control Panel, double-click the ODBC icon.
-
On the System DSN tab, click Add.
-
In the Create New Data Source box, select SQL Server and click Finish.
-
In the ODBC SQL Server Setup dialog box, click Options to expand the box. Fill in the information as shown in the following figure. Clear the Convert OEM to ANSI characters and Generate Stored Procedure for Prepared Statement check boxes. (Clearing Generate Stored Procedure for Prepared Statement provides the best performance with high volume databases.)

-
When you are finished, click OK to return to the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box. Click Close to exit ODBC setup.
To set up the DSN for a Windows 95® client
-
On the Web server, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
-
In Control Panel, double-click the ODBC icon.
-
Click System DSN.
-
In the System Data Sources box, click Add, select SQL Server, and click OK.
-
Follow steps 5 and 6 in the previous Windows NT client procedure.
