$XFree86: xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/accel/glint/README,v 1.1.4.1 1998/07/30 06:23:38 hohndel Exp $

Dirk told me to create a README file for the glint driver, so I will
do this now. :-)

I suggest to add all the things that should be important to know for
developping the driver (TODO, fixed BUGS, other important things).

Here I just begin:

TODO mentioned by Alan:
-----------------------
1. fix 16bpp/32bpp colour mapping. (32bpp fixed, see Done; Hack for
   16bpp, see Hacks)

2. update VT switching code to map/unmap the screen rather than using this
horrible 8mb save/restore buffer. This would be a nice addition for all cards,
not just the glint.

3. Run xtest on what we've got and fix any subsequent problems. Try and
get rid of GXCOPY_ONLY etc.

TODO mentioned additionaly by Dirk (as far as I know):
------------------------------------------------------
- create this README
- get as soon as possible a stable and fast Xserver :-)

TODO mentioned additionaly by me (Stefan):
------------------------------------------
- get the driver also work this my mainboard at home (I don't get any
fonts or icons at all, redraw doesn't work at all)
- find out what's going wrong with xbench in 16bpp mode
- fix redrawing bug, so you can't see any more on your clock when
  you've started the server

DONE:
-----
- 32bpp colour mapping fixed (Alan)
- double effect with higher resolutions (> 4MB) in 32 bpp mode fixed (Alan)

Hacks:
------
- when we disable line drawing acceleration, we get no 16bpp color
mapping bug or line drawing bug any more

Bugs fixed:
-----------
- memory leak bug: we forgot to unmap framebuffer (fixed by Stefan)

Other things to mention:
------------------------
- "hsyncstart" must be larger than "hdisp" (front black shoulder > 0),
otherwise your monitor gets no signal or an undefined flicker will
appear on your monitor. At least these are my experiences.

- the glint developper group has a new member
Bart van den Broek <bartvdb@win.tue.nl> has joint this team to port
our work on the Elsa cards to the Diamond Fire series.
