This is the README file for Monsanto's Release 3.36 of NQS.

This version of NQS is based on Version 1 of NQS from Cosmic. It
includes enhancements from Cosmic Version 2 and from a number of other
sources, especially Christian Boissat of Cern and Chuck Keagle of Boeing. This
version is copyrighted by John Roman and is covered by the GNU General
Public License. See the file info/COPYING for more information.

Monsanto NQS is similar to Cosmic Version 2, except for the following:

The command switches are more similar to V1 than V2, with the
exception of qstat, which has been changed significantly.
The sense of the flags switches when submitting to remote machines
retain their Cosmic V1 meaning. This may be a problem
when submitting to a machine using the V2 meaning.
The parameters for queue name size and request name size have been
increased to 31 and 63 characters respectively.
New utilities have been added to hold and release requests,
suspend and resume requests, and move and modify requests.

As a result, this version is mostly compatable with Cosmic V2, but not
exactly. The functions and commands are somewhat modified.

Version 3.36 consists of several small fixes and enhancements to release
3.35. Here are the major changes since release 3.35.3:

1. This version of NQS now supports Solaris. Thanks for the help from
Don Hjort (dhjort@fhcrc.org).

2. There is now some support for compute servers of varying compute
power. Previously the load balancing code assumed that the servers all
had the same compute power. Now it is possible through the "help set
server" command in qmgr to define the relative performance of servers
to the scheduler. The scheduler will then take that information into
account when assigning jobs to servers. See the qmgr man pages for
more information.

3. I got more fixes to the OSF/1 code from Bruno Wolff III
<bruno@alpha2.csd.uwm.edu> which I have added to the code.

The release notes are in man/nqsrn.ps. There are PostScript versions on the
man files in the man subdirectory.
