				XDROP 2
				-------

Xdrop is an Open Look utility that allows conventional UNIX applications
to be invoked using select and paste or drag and drop actions.

Xdrop displays an icon (with optional label) and you can drag and drop
files and text onto xdrop from other Open Look applications and you can
paste text into xdrop from most other X11 applications.

Xdrop will execute a command that can make use of the filenames,
contents of files or text as part of its arguments.

There are several examples in the xdrop distibution and these are
described in the manual page. They illustrate editing files, looking
up man pages, checking spelling and just launching applications.

Requirements
------------

Xdrop requires the xview toolkit version 3.0 or later and an ANSI C
compiler to compile.

Drag and drop should work from OpenWindows 3 applications, but not
OpenWindows 2 applications. I have no idea about OpenWindows 4 or
Solaris or X11R6. This functionality is the least tested.

Pasting text should work from most X11 applications (Xt or Xview based).

Xdrop does not require OpenWindows or an Open Look window manager to
run. You can just use it with xterm and twm if you like.

Installation
------------

Edit the Imakefile to reflect where your xview libraries are installed
and where you want to install xdrop.
Run xmkmf
Run make
Run make install

Xdrop has been tested under Linux and SunOs 4.1 with X11R5. There has
been limited testing with OpenWindows 3.

if you have any problems or if you have any ideas about useful additions
to xdrop.
